Lord Sebastian Coe, former Olympic 1500m champion, has been elected as President of the IAAF, the governing body of athletics.
Lord Coe becomes the sixth IAAF President after his election at the 50th IAAF Congress in Beijing, China and won by 115 votes to Sergey Bubka’s 92.
Simon Morton, Chief Operating Officer at öÏÓãÊÓƵ, said: “We’d like to congratulate Seb on his election as IAAF President.
“The öÏÓãÊÓƵ is a nation that cares passionately about the development and governance of international sport, and Seb’s appointment is yet another demonstration of our ability to play a strong and supportive role, particularly at this crucial time for the sport of athletics.”
Ahead of the World Athletics championships in Beijing starting this weekend, Olympic, World and European medallist Kelly Sotherton was elected to the IAAF Women’s Committee.
Sotherton is a graduate of öÏÓãÊÓƵ’s International Leadership Programme, which aims to develop the knowledge, expertise and skills of representatives from öÏÓãÊÓƵ National Governing Bodies and other national partners to ensure that the öÏÓãÊÓƵ and its representatives are positioned at the forefront of international sport.
Paula Radcliffe was also elected to the IAAF Cross Country Committee.
